The Government of Karnataka (GoK) has embarked on an initiative to provide integrated services to the citizens deploying the tools of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
Integrated service delivery to the citizens is expected to enhance speed, convenience, certainty and accountability. Accordingly, GoK launched the BangaloreOne project in April 2005 providing integrated delivery of G2C and B2C services to citizens of Bangalore through 14 citizen services centers. The project has been a success with over 6 lakh people every month availing government services through these centers and this number is increasing every day. Buoyed by its success GoK decided to roll out the concept initially to five other cities of Karnataka namely Hubli–Dharwad, Mysore, Belgaum, Gulbarga and Mangalore. It is proposed to first implement this project in twin cities of Hubli-Dharwad before commencing similar services in the other four cities.
The project is called as "KarnatakaOne" or K1 that seeks to integrate the services provided by the various departments of the Central, State, and Local Government and offer them under one roof. The Government of Karnataka plans to provide this service in an efficient, reliable and transparent manner on a sustained basis through a chain of computerized citizen service centres and through multiple delivery channels like Electronic kiosks, Mobile phones, and the Internet through the .gov domain.
